Lake Oconee's shoreline is managed by Georgia Power, and every dock, canopy, and cover must meet its shoreline guidelines. Our lift canopies and custom boat covers are Georgia Power–approved, and our team handles compliance as part of every installation, so your project is done right the first time.
If a wooden dock is rotting, warping, or has structural damage, replacement with aluminum usually costs less over its lifetime than repeated repairs. If the frame is sound, decking and hardware repairs can extend its life. A free shoreline visit from our team will give you a straight answer either way.

Aluminum boat docks offer major advantages over traditional wooden docks, especially in Georgia’s hot, humid climate. While many docks on Lake Oconee are still built with wood, more homeowners are switching to aluminum for its durability, lower maintenance, and long-term value. Marine Specialties designs and installs premium aluminum platform docks built specifically for Georgia lakes, offering a stronger, longer-lasting solution for Lake Oconee properties.
1. Aluminum docks require far less maintenance
Wood docks on Lake Oconee face constant challenges: humidity, UV exposure, warping, rot, insects, and the need for frequent staining or board replacement.
Aluminum does not rot, decay, or warp, making it ideal for long-term performance with minimal upkeep.
2. Superior durability in fluctuating water levels
Georgia lakes experience heavy rainfall, heat, and seasonal water level shifts.
Aluminum docks remain stable, rigid, and structurally sound, while wooden docks often weaken over time, especially at connection points and pilings.
3. Longer lifespan and better return on investment
While wood may appear cheaper upfront, its maintenance and replacement costs add up.
Aluminum docks routinely last decades longer, making them a smart investment for Lake Oconee waterfront homeowners.
4. Cleaner, modern appearance that stays attractive
Wood fades, splinters, and stains from water and sun.
Aluminum retains its clean, modern appearance with significantly less aging and discoloration—ideal for upscale Lake Oconee communities and luxury waterfront homes.
5. Lightweight, stronger framing for platforms and lifts
Aluminum structures can support larger platforms, lifts, and accessories without the structural fatigue common in wood.
This is important on Lake Oconee, where many homeowners want expanded platforms, PWC ports, sun decks, and integrated lift systems.
6. Safer under Georgia’s high humidity and heat
Wood can become slippery, moldy, or weakened in humid environments.
Aluminum docks, especially when paired with composite or PVC decking, provide safer, more stable surfaces year-round.

Eatonton, Georgia
This Lake Oconee homeowner wanted the shade of a canopy and the added protection of a fitted boat cover. Marine Specialties provided a custom solution that delivers both convenience and dependable, everyday boat protection.
"We hired Marine Specialties to install their custom boat cover at our Lake Oconee home. The Marine Specialties team were helpful and responsive through the purchase and install process. The custom boat cover attaches to your dock canopy so it makes it easy and quick to uncover and cover your boat plus it gives much more protection from the elements than a tradition cover. "
The homeowner’s dock setup meant choosing between a traditional boat cover and a canopy. While the canopy provided overhead protection, they still needed a better way to keep the boat clean, protected from the elements, and ready to launch without struggling with a bulky traditional cover.
Our team installed a Marine Concepts custom boat cover designed to work with the existing setup. Its easy-glide track system allows one person to cover or uncover the boat in about 60 seconds, with simple storage and no snaps to pull, stretch, or fight with.
The homeowner now has greater protection from sun, weather, bugs, and lake debris while keeping the boat cleaner and launch-ready. With quick one-person operation and easy storage, protecting the boat no longer feels like another chore at the end of the day.

Lake Oconee, Georgia
This Lake Oconee homeowner wanted a waterfront setup built for long-term durability without the staining, rot, warping, and recurring repairs often associated with traditional wood construction.
Marine Specialties delivered Lake Oconee’s first Georgia Power-approved aluminum boat dock , featuring aluminum pilings and framing, TimberTech Advanced PVC decking, and a ShoreMaster boat lift.
The homeowner wanted to make a lasting investment—not replace pilings, repair rotting lumber, or repeatedly stain and seal the dock.
They also needed a dependable boat-lift system that would keep their boat stored out of the water, protected, and ready for their next lake day.
Our team designed and installed an aluminum dock system from the pilings up. Aluminum does not rot like wood and offers exceptional long-term value; nearly 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today, demonstrating the material’s durability and recyclability.
We completed the dock with TimberTech Advanced PVC decking, a fully synthetic material that resists moisture, mold, mildew, rot, swelling, and warping. It is splinter-free, offers up to 40% better traction in wet or dry conditions, and select colors stay up to 30 degrees cooler than many competitive composite products—valuable benefits for a barefoot waterfront environment.
A ShoreMaster boat lift was integrated into the dock to raise and store the homeowner’s boat out of the water, making it easier to protect the vessel and get on the lake with less hassle.
The homeowner now has a complete waterfront system built around durability, comfort, and convenience. The aluminum framing and pilings eliminate concerns about wood rot and recurring staining, while the TimberTech decking provides a comfortable, low-maintenance surface that never needs to be painted or stained.
TimberTech Advanced PVC is also backed for qualifying residential applications by a 50-Year Fade and Stain Limited Warranty and a Limited Lifetime Product Warranty, adding measurable long-term value to the project.
With a Georgia Power-approved aluminum dock, premium PVC decking, and a ShoreMaster boat lift, this Lake Oconee homeowner can spend less time maintaining the waterfront and more time enjoying it.
